POSITION DESCRIPTION

Disability Support Worker / Assistant in Nursing

Assistants in Nursing operate within the framework of a care plan, under the guidance and oversight of a Registered Nurse, while staying within the boundaries of their job description. They are responsible for their own actions, yet answerable to the Registered Nurse for any tasks assigned to them. To ensure compliance, Assistants in Nursing observe Abundance Healthcare Group™ guidelines, local protocols, and the position description while carrying out their duties.

Criminal record checks will be undertaken on successful applicants. This position is designated as child-related employment and you will be required to obtain a Working With Children clearance from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

Criteria
  1. Certificate III in Health Services Assistance or equivalent or 2 or 3 Year Undergraduate Nursing Student.
  2. Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Sound knowledge of manual handling techniques and infection control.
  4. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated computer skills.
  6. Effective time management skills.
  7. COVID-19 Compliancy Required
Main tasks

Core objectives include:

• Provide support to patients with physical and/or intellectual disabilities
• Understand and provide appropriate care to patients with low needs to patients with high needs who demonstrate a range of challenging behaviors
• Assisting with activities relating to daily living, community support, and empowerment
• Work under general guidance from the personal seeking support, and their family, within clearly defined guidelines
